Hunza & Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan

Our signature crossing of Gilgit-Baltistan: the Karakoram Highway to Khunjerab, the orchards of Hunza, then east over the Indus into Baltistan.

Itinerary

1. Day 1

   Islamabad → Gilgit

   Flight or the Karakoram Highway north along the Indus gorge.

2. Day 2–4

   Central Hunza

   Karimabad, Baltit and Altit forts, Duikar sunrise, Attabad Lake.

3. Day 5

   Khunjerab Pass

   Upper Gojal, Passu Cones, Hussaini bridge and the border at 4,693 m.

4. Day 6

   Hunza → Skardu

   The Indus road east into Baltistan, arriving for sunset over Skardu.

5. Day 7–8

   Baltistan

   Shangrila and Upper Kachura, Shigar Fort, Sarfaranga cold desert.

6. Day 9–10

   Return

   Skardu to Islamabad by air, or the two-day KKH drive.
